Dearest HR,
I'm just thinking of why this expense report is almost late and um, it's for travel that I have never done before, which is not a good excuse.
And I'm thinking about failing at this task and being set to like HR and then having to explain why it was late and me being like, look. I don’t know how to ask for help.
This was my last month, okay?
1st of all, started class last month, and let's see. Yeah, like almost right about a month ago, a month and like maybe a week.
My 2nd day of class, I get a call from my mom while I'm in a meeting about this big conference we have coming up.
She tells me that my grandpa who has dementia and has been struggling in memory care for a while, um, is dying, like he's probably not going to last through the night. So I start preparing to go home. I have never had to deal with any kind of bereavement stuff with this job, so I didn't really know what to expect.
Everyone was really great. It was a super smooth of a process, but that was kind of, it was still kind of like an added stress, in general as a life thing.
So I'm prepping to go home and I end up getting home with like, at like huge expense personally, of course, which is just like, to be expected. Um, But I, Got home just the time to miss saying goodbye to my grandpa, which really sucked. um It just really sucked.
And so I, that was okay. I mean, I got it's, I still, you know, I got to stay for the service, which was wonderful. Um, they pulled out the old fire tanker for, from when he drove it, like the literal one he drove, um, back when he was a fireman in who knows what for fricking year of like, like the 19 whatevers. Um, but, It was really nice, and I'm really glad I got to be there for it. So thank you for that bereavement leave for sure.
And then, but then anyways, I get back from this leave and this is no one's fault, but or, I mean, maybe it's the people's fault, but it's nobody on my team's fault. Um, but there was like suddenly 3 giant launches happening in tandem with GSV. that we didn't really know about super far in advance and 2 of them required new social pages. So we had to kind of scramble to put those together and, I think, did a great job. We got a lot of like good content out there. We have like plans for upcoming new things. Um,
And I think that we did a really great job with that, with those launches, but, um, somewhere in there, my mom also had to get her knee replaced, which was, we found out was going to be the day GSV ended.
So I had to go to this conference just days after being on bereavement leave. Basically I got like one or 2 days. Um, before this conference, that was like very emotionally, heavy. Uh, just like in terms of like being socially engaged right after having this big loss and like having to be really there for my family and not feeling I really had time to really process.
By the way, I've had homework this whole time. There have actually like projects and stuff because I've been in grad school. So, that was all happening.
And then I, um, let's see, I go home and help my mom with her knee replacement, I continue to work that whole time because we have these huge launches happening, which are super wildly successful, by the way. Like, I can't wait to actually get a chance to look at the analytics, but alas, here we are, uh, with no time. And I, yeah, so I then I get back and I'm still doing class. I get 100% of my class, by the way.
I'm also sick from hanging out with 3 little gremlin children, whom I adore and who were all drinking out of my cup. Uh, and yeah, it's just been a very hectic few days.
Then my class ended and then the canvas got hacked, so that was weird. And So yeah. So now I'm just really tired and I'm just like still trying to recover.
But yeah, that's why my expense report is maybe a little late.
And also, I've never done one, and I have no idea how to do one, and I might have a little bit of, like, whatever that math dyslexia is. Who knows? Anyway.
Love me, bye.
